my life and other lies:

Artists- never give up on your art.

I was once asked how I'd feel if someone called me a pervert for photographing "half-naked women". Honestly, I would feel bad. ...that they've obviously missed out on my work with fully nude women. What is any art worth, if it doesn't provoke some thought, feeling, criticism, or- yes- offense, in someone ? Think of your favorite song, movie, book, picture, etc.- they didn't get to be your favorite without engaging some joy, sadness, pleasure, anger or new perspective. For the exact same reasons that some may love that song, movie,  book, picture, etc., others will hate it, find it offensive, and attempt to tear you down for creating it. If you're a writer, painter, photographer, filmmaker, musician, or any other kind of artist, take heart- we all meet disapproval. We all suffer fools. It will probably get worse before it gets better. That's ok, though- do it for you , do what you love... until you get good enough that people ask you to do more, and what you love becomes what they love. There will always be those who don't share the love, and they don't matter. Ignore them- or feed on their noise, and use it to further hone your craft. There's nothing they can say that changes who you are, but many will try to block your path with their negativity. As the great playwright William Shakespeare once said, "Haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate." Wise words, Willy-Shakes. Wise words.
