Inside the Bannus Field -

Another attempt at monthly updates. I'm actually at a great reading mode this year. 75 books by the end of Junes, so I might even reach 140-150 by the end of the year. But that always depends on the reading, since some books take more time and effort than others. 66. P. N. Elrod (ed.): Hex Appeal and 67. Paula Guran (ed.): Vampires: The Recent Undead Ok theme anthologies, with some better stories and some not-so-good stories. 68. Johanna Sinisalo: Auringon ydin Mielenkiintoinen kertomus...

Heh, well, looks like my good intentions of updating more often this year didn't actually work out. I really need to work on that. But that hasn't stopped me from reading and I'm well on track on my goal of reading at least 100 books this year. However, since I'm at about 65 books now, I just can't be bothered to talk about all the books I've read, so I decided to go for a 'best of' -option. :) 20. Mia Kankimäki: Asioita jotka saavat sydämen lyömään nopeammin (non-fiction) Kankimäen...

Read.Read.Read -

I love Goodreads and can't imagine a reason why I would stop using it. While Goodreads is great for finding information about books and what others are reading, for a while I have felt like I want to take into use a system that gives me more information about my reading. The start of a new year is as good time as any to implement that kind of system into my reading life. I have never really been a fan of Excel -- in fact, I used to hate it in high school! When I came across the idea of using an...

Just started yesterday evening another Torey Hayden book. Her books are just awesome! She is an educational psychologist and special education teacher. She has taught classes in public schools, hospitals, and mental institutions and has done research on elective mutism, physical and sexual abuse in children and bullying. In her books she tell true stories […]

Last year I read less books than I wanted. I had my goal set on 100 books, at least, a figure I usually reach very easily. This year had a lot of other stuff that took my time and concentration away from reading, but I still read several very good books. Some statistical data: 87 works read, 74 in English, 11 in Finnish, and 2 in Swedish. 32 of them were e-books and 10 were graphic novels. View Poll: Books 2015

July wasn't a great reading month, but it's Summer, there's so much other stuff to do in addition to reading. 76. 77.- 78. Lois McMaster Bujold: "Penric's Demon" and...

February was a much slower reading month than January, mostly because the book I read or was reading didn't grab me that much, or in one case I'm still slowly reading and savouring a book that I'll probably finish this month. 16. Ekaterina Sedia: The Secret History of Moscow This book is set in Moscow in the 1990s, where people are suddenly turning into birds. A small group sets to investigate this mystery and to find one woman's missing sister. During their investigation, they find an...

I had a case where I needed to read a document content from Office 365 through REST API and use that on my project. More specifically I wanted to use the content in my Word Add-in. Back then I was struggling to be able to read the content in a correct way. I didn’t find […]

The model is Emma from paparazzi.fi and photographer is me! We had a "model-folder" photoshoot. I don't really have the time to blog now, firstly I've regained my passion for photography (check out http://s-fia.deviantart.com for more) I've finally understood that my niche is portraiture/fashion photography. I'm living in Kamppi, two weeks yet to come without internet and tv but I've never done so much in one week than this. Right now wonderings: Go and study to England or Australia? I can't...

Toinen juttu on toi banneri, oon kyllästynyt tohon mun banneriini, koska siinä on vanhat hiukset jne jne. Tein pari banneria äsken ihan...

I have been reading Helsingin Sanomat on the iPad for 3 weeks. Here some first impressions: No News Stand integration The HS app does not integrate into the iPad News Stand, which means the morning paper is not automatically downloaded and waiting for you when you sit in the breakfast table. The download does not take very long, so this is not such a bad thing, just a minor annoyance. The download for the weekly Nyt addition, on the other hand, takes a really long time, a few minutes. And the...

I haven't been active in updating this journal for a while now. I guess at some point a few years ago, I just got burned out on reviewing and writing in general after having done that very actively for several years. It also didn't help that much of fandom moved over to Tumblr etc. which is just not suited for long text comments or in-depth analysis of books/tv/movies/whatever. This year I decided to try to revive this journal a bit and at least try to make monthly book/media comments which...

AskarteluVuori -

Uusin Askarteluvuoren atc vaihto haaste on edelleen käynnissä. Aiheena "mittasuhteet".
