This week has been a dentist week – we made a plan for crowns etc. Feeling a bit nervous, blue, I haven’t had inspiration to paint nor drawing. But I found this gentleman I made in January.   ‘a gentleman in a long coat’       Paint Party Friday     How has […]

Due to technical difficulties elaborated below (or above... this world of online text is so confusing) I missed two days of e-newspapers and therefore had only my notes to work on. I decided to construct one post on the 6th and 7th day from the remains of the two separate posts. Since I had no access to the original articles anymore, the post is necessarily more about general musings than this specific publication. ------- It's that wondrous time of the year again when all over the media little...

I wish I could speak several other languages and all of them fluently. Especially languages like Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, French and Russian. I love to communicate with people and I love to learn about other cultures and their way of perceiving the world, and I think much of it is related to the language one uses and you never can get close enough without being able to understand the language. I wish I also would be able to maintain a better grip of myself, so that it would be possible to...

On my recent scavenger hunt I came across a postage stamp album with flower motifs. I do collect stamps myself, but a lot of the stamps were bulk issue from countries that used stamps as export goods. So I didn't feel they were too precious to use in mixed media. (Blog hop people, please read on!) I started by tearing up paers and collaging them onto a master board. When dry, I adhered different washi tapes all over. Then I used Brusho colors in green, turquoise and Prussian blue and let them...

Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine many have been drawing parallels between the prelude to WW2 and the current Russian-driven crisis. What's really funny is how oblivious the Russians themselves are to these parallels (even while desperately trying to draw their own), making a whole bunch of historical ironies possible. Useful idiots who consider themselves anti-fascists were rallying behind Vladimir Putin in Moscow a few days ago with banners saying Putin, People, Russia . You...

While a house in a hilly area comes with a promise of stunning panoramic views of the surroundings, to their utter chagrin, homeowners quickly realize that working on a sloping backyard can be a harrowing task. However, the old adage, "More work equals to better results" certainly holds true in case of landscaping a sloping yard which presents innumerable opportunities for aesthetically pleasing inclusions that would otherwise look mundane. When planning a landscape for a hilly yard, it is...

I haven't been active in updating this journal for a while now. I guess at some point a few years ago, I just got burned out on reviewing and writing in general after having done that very actively for several years. It also didn't help that much of fandom moved over to Tumblr etc. which is just not suited for long text comments or in-depth analysis of books/tv/movies/whatever. This year I decided to try to revive this journal a bit and at least try to make monthly book/media comments which...
