Dark 1 Dark 2 The photographs were taken on December 14th. This morning I walked in a snow-covered forest. Sunrise was at 9:02, so it wasn't dark. Length of day is 7 hours, which feels like a milestone towards spring. Field 1 Field 2 The photographs were taken in Petikko on December 10th. I commuted by bicycle today, and it took a bit over an hour to ride to work, and the same time for the ride back home. In the morning some of the road was difficult to ride because of the snow, but in the afternoon the road was already in quite good shape. So far this year I have got 233 km riding the bicycle. Tree 1 Tree 2 The photographs were taken on December 9th. Depth of snow is now 21 cm, and it feels like winter. I didn't commute by bicycle today, using the train instead. The weather forecast promises a little bit of new snow for tomorrow, but I'm planning to commute by bicycle anyway, hoping that the paths are okay for riding the bicycle. Path The photograph was taken on December 9th. This afternoon it started to snow, and there was 4 cm of snow on the ground when I arrived home. It looks like winter. My old lobster-style winter gloves don't keep the hands warm any more. They we over fours years old, so I guess that was to be expected. I ordered a new pair, of different type, size XXL, and I hope they fit. I don't understand the sizing of gloves, it seems that they are always smaller than they should be. So far this year I have...

Blue The photograph was taken on December 9th. The weather has been cold, especially because of strong south wind from the sea which makes -7 °C feel much colder. I have been commuting by bicycle through the central park in Helsinki. Later this week we may get 10 cm of snow, and that may cause some difficulties for the commute. Snow 1 Snow 2 The photographs were taken in Vaakkoi on December 6th. There was 16 hours of sunshine at Helsinki-Vantaa airport in December, 2017, and there were several places in Finland where the sun was always hidden behind clouds in daytime. A dark month indeed. Snow 1 Snow 2 Snow 3 The photographs were taken in Vaakkoi on December 6th. I got over 12 hours of exercise this week. I should take a rest day, but on the other hand the weather seems to be excellent for commuting by bicycle, at least until Thursday. ...och lämnar hemmet i blek vardag. Som jag i och för sig älskar!  Jag finner en ro i det avskalade och lite bleka som blir kvar. Känner hur pulsen går ner i vintervarv.

Snow 1 Snow 2 The photographs were taken in Vaakkoi on December 6th. In six day I have got 11 hours of exercise, half of it riding the bicycle and half walking. The length of day is 45 minutes longer than it was at the shortest, which feels good, even though it is still quite dark in the morning. (Posting title is from the poem Oh, Hope! thou soother sweet of human woes by Charlotte Smith.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

View The photograph was taken on December 5th. Today I commuted by bicycle through the central park in Helsinki, which is nice because there are few people and no traffic lights. We had -6 °C in the morning and -3 °C in the afternoon. (Posting title is from the poem The Waste Land by T. S. Eliot.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Dark 1 Dark 2 The photographs were taken on December 5th. I commuted by bicycle today, riding through the central park in Helsinki. In the morning the temperature was -7 °C, in the afternoon -2 °C. I was wearing lobster-style gloves, but in the morning my hands got a bit cold. It may be that the gloves are starting to lose some of their insulating properties. Dark The photograph was taken on December 5th. The handheld exposure was 1 second, and there is some blur, but it is not bad. It seems that cold and dry weather will continue until next weekend. That is fine, even though it would be nice to have a little bit of snow to make the landscape less dark. (Posting title is from the poem Paradise Lost: Book 12 by John Milton.) View 1 View 2 View 3 View 4 The photographs were taken on December 4th at Pitkäkoski rapids by Vantaanjoki river in Helsinki. I commuted by bicycle today. Because of the cold weather it was once again nice to ride across the central park in Helsinki. The paths were frozen solid, no mud at all. There was slippery ice in only some isolated spots. During the last two weeks I did some long walks on hard surfaces using my hunting boots, and that was a mistake. My left heel has been hurting. Riding...

Hei, seuraavaksi pari kukkakorttia, jonka ainekset sain joulukalenterivaihdossa. Materiaalikuoria oli kaikkiaan 12, ja useimmissa oli kaksi leimakuvaa, paperit ja koristeita runsaasti kahteenkin korttiin.  Hi, two flower cards, I got the materials from Christmas calender swap. 12 envelopes filled with images, papers and embellies - and every other day we got a little present. I say we had a wonderful December. My photo tent (light box) broke, sorry about the poor colours. Onneksi tuo...

Wet 1 Wet 2 The photographs were taken on December 4th at the Haltiala nature protection area north of Paloheinä in Helsinki. The weather is now rather like winter, temperature at -2 °C, and some sunshine to be expected during the day. There is even a little bit of snow in some places. I'm planning to go for a long walk in Sipoonkorpi national park. (Posting title is from the poem in the general conservative cast by kari edwards.) Dark 1 Dark 2 Dark 3 The photographs were taken on December 4th at Paloheinä in Helsinki. While walking along the paths I got to 15 meters distance of two white-tailed deer, thanks to the meandering paths, but the photographs were blurry because it was so dark. (Posting title is from the poem Cast Off by Belle Randall.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Wet 1 Wet 2 Wet 3 The photographs were taken on December 3rd in Petikko. This morning was wet, but it didn't rain when I went out walking. Yesterday I forgot to take the camera with me, but today I didn't make that mistake. There wasn't much that caught the eye, however. Snow 1 Snow 2 The photographs were taken on December 2nd. This morning I walked for two hours, going past a place where I fell ten years ago while riding the bicycle, breaking my wrist. I was asked what color I would like for the plaster cast, and I selected pink because I thought the children would like it. And thus I gave the welcome words in a seminar wearing a dark suit and tie with a pink plaster cast. (Posting title is from the poem A Leg in a Plaster Cast by Muriel Rukeyser.) Posted by...

Snow The photograph was taken on December 2nd. The weather is still wet and rather warm, +2 °C. It is dark even after sunset because of the thick cloud cover. I did some walking this morning, and took photographs, but it was far from inspiring. (Posting title is from the poem Charm for the Tooth-Ache by Philip Murray.) Wet 1 Wet 2 Wet 3 The photographs were taken on December 2nd. This morning I walked for over 1 1/2 hours, going to the post office to fetch a package, containing new headphones. They seem to be quite ok, but of durability I can't of course say anything yet. (Posting title is from the poem The Skyline of a Missing Tooth by Sherwin Bitsui.) Motoristin Mutsi at home and garden -

I wanted to remember something else from last year than worries - I knew there were also good moments: some were very small, some were bigger. Here are one per month.  Hietaniemi in January, Cyclo cross race. Cold of course, it was January. Rokkari, the old tomcat,  in new beddings. I didn't bought them for him, though.  In March shorts walks around. Less than 1 km at the time.  Short deviation in April by the river in Kerava.  Road trip to Madona, Latvia, in May. Because of Supermoto. Via...

Lake 1 Lake 2 Lake 3 Lake 4 The photographs were taken on December 2nd. This morning I walked for two hours in Petikko. The snow from yesterday had melted away, and the amount of flooding in the ditches around the fields was remarkable. Some of the paths were icy and very slippery. PUNAINEN TURKU -

Tänään 2-1 tulee kuluneeksi tasavuosia Ruotsin valtionhoitaja Svante Niilonpojan kuolemasta Västeråsin linnassa vuonna 1512.  Hänet tunnetaan myös Svante Sturen nimellä.     Svante Niilonpoika ( 1460 – 2. tammikuuta 1512 ) toimi Ruotsin valtionhoitajana vuosina 1504 – 1512 .

Snow 1 Snow 2 The photographs were taken on December 2nd. We got some snow during the night, about 3 cm. Some of it may melt away, but there might be some more snowfall during the day. Snow 1 Snow 2 The photographs were taken on December 2nd. I got this week 14 hours of exercise, all of it walking. The average about of exercise is about 11 hours per week, of which almost 2/3 riding the bicycle. Getting 570 hours of exercise in a year is not bad. Tomorrow I believe there will be snow shoveling in the program, at least the weather forecast promises a couple of cm of snow. (Posting title is from the poem Eugenia Todd by Edgar Lee Masters.) Snow 1 Snow 2 The photographs were taken on December 1st. This morning I walked for two hours at Niipperi, exploring the nature protection area. There was a little bit of snow still left in some places, but the ground was soaking wet, and the ditches were flooding. (Posting title is from the poem The Benefactors by Rudyard Kipling.)
