View 1 View 2 The photographs were taken in Luukki at lake Kaitalampi on October 17th. Today I got 2 1/2 hours of exercise. Weather is getting cooler again, next night will be below 0 °C. Lake The photograph was taken in Luukki by lake Kaitalampi on October 17th. The length of day is now less than 8 hours, which means that we are really in the dark season. The day will shorten to less than six hours, but then it will start brightening again. (Posting title is from the poem A Nocturnal upon St. Lucy's Day by John Donne.) Lake The photograph was taken in Vaakkoi on October 18th, at lake Saaren-Musta. In three days I have got 7 1/2 hours of exercise. This morning there was black ice on the road, and I wondered why the studded winter tires are so silent, until I realized: "It's the ice, stupid!" (Posting title is from the poem The Man on the Dump by Wallace Stevens.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

View 1 View 2 The photographs were taken on October 21st. In the morning the depth of snow was 4 cm, and in the afternoon 2 cm, due to melting. Commuting by bicycle was otherwise ok but when big wet snowflakes were falling and hit the eyes, visibility got poor. The studded winter tires provided plenty of grip. Lake 1 Lake 2 The photographs were taken at Niihama outdoor area in Tampere on October 28th. Today I commuted by car and train. I got one hour of walking. (Posting title is from the poem Water Wheel by Gary Soto.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Lake The photograph was taken in Luukki by lake Kaitalampi on October 17th. I commuted by bicycle on five days this week, getting 9 1/2 hours of exercise. So far this year I have got 5,631 km of riding the bicycle. By the end of the year I should get over 6,000 km, but I won't reach 6,500 km which I got last year. (Posting title is from the poem The Crystal Lithium by James Schuyler.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Lake 1 Lake 2 The photographs were taken at Niihama outdoor area in Tampere on September 9th. It starts to be the time of the year when the number of people commuting by bicycle starts to decrease. On the other hand, some people have already installed studded winter tires to the bicycle, and are thus prepared for the slippery roads. Sand 1 Sand 2 Sand 3 Sand 4 The photographs were taken at lake Hiisijärvi, which is an interesting place to visit because of the white sand dunes. I wrote another poem about Trump, or tried at least. I love dark money, building golden towers, and admire myself in the mirrors. Poisoning air, earth and water I set the world on fire. Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Lake 1 Lake 2 The photographs were taken in Luukki on May 1st. Today I thought about #covfefe. Perhaps it means уходить in Russian? So far this year I have got 2,523 km riding the bicycle, and 653 km since the beginning of May. (Posting title is from the poem Angellica’s Lament by Aphra Behn.) Lake 1 Lake 2 The photographs were taken on August 14th at Sipoonkorpi National Park. Today I walked for almost three hours at Niihama in Tampere, walking through the nature protection area and enjoying the lakeside views. It was raining, and few people were outside. On the lake I saw and heard two women in canoes. They discussed the beauty of all the shades of gray in the landscape. (Posting title is from the poem Language is her caravan by Caleb Klaces.) Lake 1 Lake 2 Lake 3 The photographs were taken by lake Saaren-Musta at Vaakkoi on August 19th. What can one say about the craziness that is rampant in the world? There was a news item about a Finn serving in British Army who was arrested for neo-Nazi activity. Where do these people come from? Are all Finns potential terrorists? Lake The photograph was taken November 4th. This morning I walked for two hours at Paloheinä in the Central Park in Helsinki. I climbed hills, explored the nature protection area, and checked the level of flooding by the Vantaajoki river. I saw two white-tailed deer, and they didn't notice me until I was at 20 meters distance. (Posting title is from the poem Wheel of Fire by Ishion Hutchinson.) View 1 View 2 The photographs were taken on November 12th. I commuted by bicycle, and had to take a detour because a path I have been using was in bad condition because of snow and ice. In the morning we had -2 °C and in the afternoon +2 °C. So far this year I have got 6,102 km riding the bicycle. It may be that I reach 6,200 km, but I won't get to 6,500 km which I got last year. Lake View-talo sai nyt lattiat. Lattialistat vain puuttuu. Kylppäri on vielä ihan alkutekijöissään. Keittiön tapetti ei mene alas asti, koska jäisi alakaappien taakse.

Mainelaisessa järvessä, Black Lakessa jokin syö sukeltajasta puolet ja se on aika huono juttu, joten sheriffi Hank (Brendan Gleeson) ja riistanvartija Jack (Bill Pullman) ryhtyvät selvittämään mikä se jokin on. Avukseen ja haitakseen he tänne syrjäseudulle saavat suurkaupungin herkkähipiäisen paleontologi Kellyn (Bridget Fonda) ja seikkailuhenkisen mytologian professori Hectorin (Oliver Platt), mikä tietenkin aiheuttaa runsaasti humoristista naljailua ns. kala kuivalla...

Yllättävä löytö Alkon hyllyltä, tummaa lageria Wisconsinin Milwaukeesta. Lakefront on USA:n vanhemman polven pienpanimoita, perustettu jo 1987. Aiemmin olen juonut panimon näppärää IPAa Ilkka Sysilän tarjoamana. Milwaukee on USA:n perinteisen olutteollisuuden suurimpia keskuksia, ehkä jopa suurin. Wisconsin on vahvaa saksalaissiirtolaisuuden aluetta ja olutperinteet tulevat sieltä. Kiertelin Wisconsinia keväällä 2010, mm. pääkaupunki Madisonissa , jalkapallokeskuksessa Green...

Voimalaitoksen vanhoihin tiloihin on avautunut varsin äskettäin Raleighissa uusi panimoravintola Tobacco Road, joka ehkä teettää vielä oluensa muualla. Hyvin äänekäs sporttibaari, ei millään tavalla miellyttävä. Kokeilin Cloudin kanssa "yhteistyössä" tehtyä huna-IPAa, 6,8%. Varsin samea, mallasta, pähkinää, hieman makeutta. Pehmeää, mutta ei yllättäen hunajaa erityisemmin. Katkeruutta ripaus. Raleigh (NC), Tobacco Road, 19.8.2017.

Lake 1 Lake 2 The photographs were taken in Luukki on September 23rd. I have got 5,247 km riding the bicycle this year. The new waterproof coat seems to be excellent. There is a front pocket, excellent for storing keys, and the light yellow color with reflective stripes is much better than the dark red of the old one, which wasn't so good during the dark season. I hope the coat is at least as durable as the old one, which lasted three years. (Posting title is from the poem That Strait-Jacket...

Lake 1 Lake 2 Lake 3 The photographs were taken at lake Pitkäjärvi in Velskola on December 6th. It is raining today. So far this week I have got ten hours of exercise, eight of them riding the bicycle. Yesterday I walked for two hours at Ketunkorpi in Luukki. It was quiet. Update: I realized I had used the same title in a posting on April 24th, 2016 . Well, I think it is fine enough to be used twice. (Posting title is from the poem EGG by Brian Swann.) Lake 1 Lake 2 The photographs were taken at lake Kattilajärvi in Nuuksio on December 6th. Spring The photograph was taken on April 22nd. One can't help wondering about Trump. You could say that he is like a small child who whines about everything, except that the children I have known are much better behaved. Also, one should not think about him as a child, because he is extremely dangerous. Nothing is for him too perilous, too hazardous, too risky, or too unsafe. Also, not to forget, he is treacherous, and slippery like an eel. (Posting title is from the poem The Third Hour of the...
