Lake 1 Lake 2 Lake 3 The photographs were taken at Vaakkoi on October 19th. I commuted by bicycle today. The road conditions were bad on many places, and it took over an hour both in the morning and in the afternoon. In some places I had to walk the bicycle. In all I got 2 1/2 hours of exercise. Fog 1 Fog 2 Fog 3 Fog 4 The photographs were taken at Vaakkoi on October 19th. The weather is warming up. In the morning we had -8 °C, for the afternoon the forecast promises -2 °C. I went for a walk and took photographs of the snowy landscape. For the next week the forecast promises even warmer weather, up to +5 °C, and some rain. It won't be especially pleasant for commuting by bicycle, but I'll try anyway. So far this year I have got 5793 km riding the bicycle. (Posting title is from the...

Meiko 1 Meiko 2 Meiko 3 The photographs were taken at Meiko on October 20th. In three days I have got over six hours of exercise riding the bicycle. This morning the road conditions were challenging, because the packed snow was melting into slush. I had to walk the bicycle part of the way, and it took 1 hour 10 minutes to get to work. In the afternoon it was better, just one hour. (Posting title is from the poem The challenge: to start by Anna Moschovakis.) Posted by Juha Haataja at...

Lake 1 Lake 2 Lake 3 The photographs were taken at lake Vaakkoi on October 15th. It started snowing today. In the morning the depth of snow was 4 cm, now it is 8 cm. I commuted by bicycle, and there was quite strong headwind on the way home. The new snow on top of ice made road conditions challenging. The more I use the new winter tires on snow and ice, the more I like them. Having 240 studs in a tire is not overkill. (Posting title is from the song Alexander by I Said Yes.) Posted by Juha...

Sand 1 Sand 2 Sand 3 Sand 4 The photographs were taken at lake Hiisijärvi, which is an interesting place to visit because of the white sand dunes. I wrote another poem about Trump, or tried at least. I love dark money, building golden towers, and admire myself in the mirrors. Poisoning air, earth and water I set the world on fire. Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Lake 1 Lake 2 The photographs were taken in Luukki on May 1st. Today I thought about #covfefe. Perhaps it means уходить in Russian? So far this year I have got 2,523 km riding the bicycle, and 653 km since the beginning of May. (Posting title is from the poem Angellica’s Lament by Aphra Behn.) Lake 1 Lake 2 The photographs were taken at Meiko on October 20th. I commuted by bicycle today. The snow has melted away, but in many places there is lots of gravel on top of asphalt. So far this year I have got 5,929 km riding the bicycle. (Posting title is from the poem The Star-splitter by Robert Frost.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Mainelaisessa järvessä, Black Lakessa jokin syö sukeltajasta puolet ja se on aika huono juttu, joten sheriffi Hank (Brendan Gleeson) ja riistanvartija Jack (Bill Pullman) ryhtyvät selvittämään mikä se jokin on. Avukseen ja haitakseen he tänne syrjäseudulle saavat suurkaupungin herkkähipiäisen paleontologi Kellyn (Bridget Fonda) ja seikkailuhenkisen mytologian professori Hectorin (Oliver Platt), mikä tietenkin aiheuttaa runsaasti humoristista naljailua ns. kala kuivalla...

Voimalaitoksen vanhoihin tiloihin on avautunut varsin äskettäin Raleighissa uusi panimoravintola Tobacco Road, joka ehkä teettää vielä oluensa muualla. Hyvin äänekäs sporttibaari, ei millään tavalla miellyttävä. Kokeilin Cloudin kanssa "yhteistyössä" tehtyä huna-IPAa, 6,8%. Varsin samea, mallasta, pähkinää, hieman makeutta. Pehmeää, mutta ei yllättäen hunajaa erityisemmin. Katkeruutta ripaus. Raleigh (NC), Tobacco Road, 19.8.2017.

Lake 1 Lake 2 Lake 3 Lake 4 The photographs were taken in Nuuksio on December 10th. Yesterday I walked for two hours at lake Myllyjärvi, south of Luukki. Today I went to Nuuksio, walking a route that I hadn't explored since last spring. I got a bit lost, and that was good. (Posting title is from the poem Poetry Is a Sickness by Ed Bok Lee.) Lake 1 Lake 2 Lake 3 The photographs were taken at lake Pitkäjärvi in Velskola on December 6th. It is raining today. So far this week I have got ten hours of exercise, eight of them riding the bicycle. Yesterday I walked for two hours at Ketunkorpi in Luukki. It was quiet. Update: I realized I had used the same title in a posting on April 24th, 2016 . Well, I think it is fine enough to be used twice. (Posting title is from the poem EGG by Brian Swann.) Lake 1 Lake 2 The photographs were taken at lake Kattilajärvi in Nuuksio on December 6th. Finns are surrounded by water, in seas and lakes. Mostly water has a calming effect, but sometimes it can be a bit scary as well. This aattu.tv special takes us on an ambient journey to Leppävesi lake and Saunalahti bay accompanied by Karoliina Salminen's music. We participated Metafest - Metacafe’s Short Film Festival 2008 with our aattu.tv special episode from last year. The white surface of snow and the warming rays of the sun of early spring accompany the buoyant fisherman while he expects the fish to bite the bait. Pulling nourishment thru the ice is not the main motivation anymore, but relaxation, sense of peace and physically experiencing the arriving summer are the factors driving people to gather around holes in the ice. This winter ice covered waters also

Lake 1 Lake 2 The photographs were taken on April 29th at Vaakkoi. This morning I walked for over two hours, starting from Hindsby at Sipoonkorpi National Park. There were plenty of spring flowers to enjoy. However, I forgot the LX100 camera at home, so I had to use the iPhone for taking photographs. After a while I got used to it, even though I was missing the convenient controls and the wide-angle view. I watched the movie Django Unchained. Something was quite familiar, and it took a while...

Spring The photograph was taken on April 22nd. One can't help wondering about Trump. You could say that he is like a small child who whines about everything, except that the children I have known are much better behaved. Also, one should not think about him as a child, because he is extremely dangerous. Nothing is for him too perilous, too hazardous, too risky, or too unsafe. Also, not to forget, he is treacherous, and slippery like an eel. (Posting title is from the poem The Third Hour of the...

Blue 1 Blue 2 Blue 3 The photographs were taken at Oittaa on December 31st. I have got 272 km riding the bicycle this year. Last year I got over 6,500 km of riding, which now feels quite a feat, perhaps because in winter riding the bicycle is much heavier and slower than during summer. But at least the days are getting longer. This morning I saw a little bit lighter sky in the east while commuting by bicycle, even though it was over an hour before sunrise.
