Light Scrape -

Sun The photograph was taken on October 20th in Petikko. This morning I walked for two hours, enjoying the early morning landscape. There was some frost and ice, and a little bit of fog in the open fields. I met a man who wanted to say a few words. He warned that there is black ice on the road, dangerous for those who use rubber boots. Then he asked if I had some money to give to him. And then he quoted Bible and told that Donald Trump is working with the Israelis against the Israelis, hinting...

Tree The photograph was taken on October 20th. It rained this morning, and there was strong headwind when commuting by bicycle. In the afternoon there was partial headwind, but the rain had stopped. In five days I got 10 hours of exercise even though I took one rest day when I commuted by car and train. It is remarkable how Donald Trump's cabinet members fit the stereotype of villains in old James Bond movies. They are crazy, and they crab things. (Posting title is from the poem The Villain by...

Lake The photograph was taken in Vaakkoi on October 18th, at lake Saaren-Musta. In three days I have got 7 1/2 hours of exercise. This morning there was black ice on the road, and I wondered why the studded winter tires are so silent, until I realized: "It's the ice, stupid!" Leaves The photograph was taken at Vaakkoi on October 18th. Today I got 2 1/2 hours of exercise, the same as yesterday. The length of day is now 7 h 33 min, and getting shorter rather fast. View The photograph was taken in Luukki on October 17th. This morning I walked two hours, exploring nearby forests and swamps. The swamps and ditches are flooding, because of rain and melted snow. The water level is higher than it was last spring. (Posting title is from the poem Dead Man’s Dump by Isaac Rosenberg.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Red The photograph was taken in Luukki on October 17th. The red sun was remarkable, caused by dust in the air. (Posting title is from the poem A Woman on the Dump by Debora Greger.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Lake The photograph was taken in Luukki by lake Kaitalampi on October 17th. I commuted by bicycle on five days this week, getting 9 1/2 hours of exercise. So far this year I have got 5,631 km of riding the bicycle. By the end of the year I should get over 6,000 km, but I won't reach 6,500 km which I got last year. Lake The photograph was taken in Luukki by lake Kaitalampi on October 17th. The length of day is now less than 8 hours, which means that we are really in the dark season. The day will shorten to less than six hours, but then it will start brightening again. (Posting title is from the poem A Nocturnal upon St. Lucy's Day by John Donne.) Red The photograph was taken on October 16th. In a previous posting I wrote: "I thought about stereotypes, for example the feeling that many people from the USA are not really grown up even though they may look like adults." One thing which fits this stereotype extreme well is gun ownership. Only people who haven't grown up can allow such a lax attitude to guns as is the case in the USA. It's great have a birthday around Halloween which is one of the coolest jubilee; I couldn't have been able to wish the  better day to come into existence. This year it was also a full moon which culminated the day. On Saturday evening I headed to the bar in this look below:   At first I wasn't about to do any special look, but then I decided to paint a sugar skull face in a last minute which was nice. I love this look and that top which is self made. With the top I wore a pencil skirt and ...

Colors The photograph was taken on October 14th. We are having cold and dry weather, but for the weekend the weather forecast promises somewhat warmer. Today I commuted by car and train, but tomorrow I'm once again riding the bicycle. In Finland, the amount of taxes carried for each person and company is public information. Today was the day the information was released for the year 2016, and this produced quite a lot of interest and discussions. (Posting title is from the poem Pyrography by...

View The photograph was taken on October 7th. The bicycle commute takes now 10 minutes longer than in the summer, 50 minutes or more, due to studded winter tires and the clothing one needs to wear in cold weather. In the morning there was some headwind. The wind got stronger, and in the afternoon I had up to 16 m/s backwind, which was rather nice. The weather forecast promises show for tomorrow, up to 15-20 cm, and strong wind. I started installing winter tires to the car yesterday after work...

Street The photograph was taken on October 7th in Petikko. This morning the temperature was -4 °C when I started the bicycle commute. In the afternoon we had 3 °C. For Thursday the weather forecast promises 10 cm of snow, so the landscape will change. (Posting title is from A Pillow Book: "A Great Book can be read again and again..." by Suzanne Buffam.) Red The photograph was taken on October 7th. Today I commuted by car and train, because of meeting logistics. Tomorrow there might be a little bit of snowfall, but I have studded winter tires in the bicycle, so it should be fine. (Posting title is from the poem An Immigrant Woman by Anne Winters.) An outfit from the week. I managed to find a pencil skirt in the flea market a week ago and it was like new. The skirt is made of a stretchy material including a lining. I find it's pretty quality and fits perfectly. Sometimes I need to narrow a hip from the ready-made skirts because my hip is quite nonexistent, but not this time. A mesh shirt is many years old which I bought when I lived in Savonlinna and a harness is self made.  Shirt: Lindex, Skirt: Flea market, Harness: Diy During the week...

Fern 1 Fern 2 The photograph was taken on September 30th. This morning was cold, -3.5 °C when I started walking. There was plenty of frost, and small puddles and ponds had ice on top. Almost all leaves have fallen off trees, and the remaining will probably fall down during this weekend. What happens in the USA shows that there is no bottom to the depravity of Donald Trump and his minions (including almost all of the GOP). Lies, lies, lies - and when they get caught, as inevitably happens, they...

Leaves The photograph was taken on September 30th. We had a cold night, and there was frost and ice in the morning. I walked for two hours in Petikko, and before sunrise I saw four white-tailed deer, having a bite at a field. I wonder how bright the deer are, as last weekend there was a hunt going on around those same fields. Perhaps they know that it is not safe only on weekends. Leaf The photograph was taken on September 30th. Today I got the bicycle back from the repair shop. It turned out the some water had leaked inside the Nexus 8 gear hub, and there was plenty of rust. The hub has been cleaned and oiled, but it may be that it will stop working rather soon. That is a pity. But at least today it worked finely. I have studded winter tires in the bicycle, so I'm ready for winter. Next week there might even be some snow, according to weather forecasts. (Posting title...

Blur The photograph was taken in Luukki on September 23rd. Today I commuted by car and train, because of meetings. In the morning the temperature was at 1 °C, the coldest day so far this autumn. Stairs The photographs were taken at University of Helsinki on September 22nd. I have been buying new clothes for commuting by bicycle. Both my waterproof jacket and autumn/spring gloves got worn out, with holes in the fabric and tears in the seams. Today I used for the first time the new waterproof jacket, and it rained both in the morning and in the afternoon. (Posting title is from the poem Jacket Photograph by Elizabeth Holmes.)
