Trees The photograph was taken at Vaakkoi on August 19th. This week has been wet. Luckily today I didn't get soaked while commuting by bicycle. (Posting title is from the poem The Storm Is Over by Jason Guriel.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Desperatehell -

The last day of summer occurred and soon it's faded into the past. To be honest the weather has been quite autumnal for the last week and I can't wait for getting to photograph all the colors the fall offers. The nature runs its course so to speak.  I love the autumn, but I kind of miss the summer too and its warmth and light clothes. This summer was so poor, but let's hope the next is better.  Recent days I have worn a lot my old fake leather jacket which is lovely. With it I have wrapped a...

River The photograph was taken on July 21st. I have got 4,090 km riding the bicycle this year, of which 2,220 km since the beginning of May. Today I realized the tire pressure was low, and did some pumping. (Posting title is from the poem Oenone by Lord Tennyson.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Field The photograph was taken on July 13th. Yesterday it became evident without doubt that the President of United States is a supporter of nazis. In World War II the United States lost 407,300 people, most of whom were military. Now there are evil racists showing the nazi flag within the country, with the blessing of Trump. Who would have thought that something like this would be possible. (Posting title is from the poem My Sister Says White Supremacy Is Turning Her Crazy by Morgan Parker.)...

Sea The photograph was taken in Helsinki on July 9th. It seems that the time of the slavery is quite a painful topic in the US. Have people learned anything from history? Also, there doesn't seem to be a limit on how low Trump can go on. (Posting title is from the poem We Thought by Susan Lewis.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Flower The photograph was taken at Vuokatti on July 4th. Even though I abhor violence, today I feel great sympathy towards those who wish to punch nazis. It is remarkable how Trump and his minions protect neo-nazis and white supremacists, even though 73% of mass killings in the US since 1983 have been committed by white men. Well, perhaps this isn't so remarkable given that 90 years ago Trump's father was arrested at a KKK rally in Queens. (Posting title is from the song If You Had A Vinyard by...

Bug The photograph was taken on July 1st while visiting the Sallatunturi fells in Salla, Lapland. I have explored the parks in London. Today morning I visited Holland Park, having a look at Kyoto Garden. This is a place I really liked. After noon it started to rain, and this will continue for some time. I guess it might be worthwhile to take a walk when the rain eases a bit. (Posting title is from the poem The Horse Fell Off the Poem by Mahmoud Darwish.) Posted by Juha Haataja at...

View The photograph was taken on June 27th in Helsinki, with an iPhone SE. This morning I rode the bicycle for two hours, exploring the small roads and paths between Leppävaara and Glims in Espoo. Once again I got a bit lost, which felt good. I have written comments on some photography blogs during the summer vacation, as there has been time to do a bit of blog exploring. A posting by Carl Weese got me thinking about the differences between countries and their approach to things like taxation...

Hail The photograph was taken on June 22nd in Helsinki. We had rather variable weather then. Today I visited Sea Life aquarium in Helsinki. Shark feeding time appears to be popular. At the studio, planning the next 'The Tree of Tears of Good and Evil' installation, which will be at #Grafoteekki, #Helsinki in August. Fox The photograph was taken at Korkeasaari Zoo on July 12th. This morning I explored river Vantaa and places on both sides of the Ring I road in Helsinki, riding the bicycle. I even got a bit lost, and found some new routes and vistas. (Posting title is from the poem King John’s Christmas by A.A. Milne.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Trees The photograph was taken on June 16th while visiting Timmermalmi. Today is a clouded day, but there shouldn't be much rain. The bicycle is still in the repair shop, but it should be ready today. It is terrifying to follow what happens with the Trump kakistocracy. A democracy works only as long as people #resist. (Posting title is from the poem You Love, You Wonder by Brenda Shaughnessy.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Tree The photograph was taken on June 16th while visiting Timmermalmi. Here are some happy things: The novel The Wonder by Emma Donoghue is absolutely great, combining gothic horror with closely observed domestic life. The iPhone SE camera is a worthwhile tool, even though it is not a match to a real camera such as the Panasonic LX100. But when I'm riding the bicycle, the iPhone is the tool I take with me in case there is something to capture. You can't hide the truth forever, which is more and...

Figure The photograph was taken on June 3rd. My seven year old Macbook got broken while traveling, it doesn't start up any more. I guess it got one bump too many. I'm pondering whether I need a laptop, or can I survive with the iMac and an iPhone/iPad. This remains to be seen. I lost some files as well, mostly related to my book-review blog. Perhaps it is not a big problem to forget about a few dozen books I have read but not yet written about. (Posting title is from the poem Roadblock by...

Lake 1 Lake 2 Lake 3 The photographs were taken in Nuuksio on May 26th. Today I went to Träskända park in Espoo, riding a bicycle, and explored the river Glims on foot. Lots of noise from birds, and only a couple of people to be seen, and two dogs. (Posting title is from the poem A Sheep Dog Locked in Photograph by Hershman John.) Flower The photograph was taken at Kytäjä-Usmi on May 13th. I woke up early today, and rode my bicycle to Timmermalmi, exploring the forests and swamps on foot, getting 2 1/2 hours of exercise. Later today I have some more exercise in the program. (Posting title is from the poem Inside the Blues Whale by Afaa Michael Weaver.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Green The photograph was taken on May 14th in Petikko. On Monday and Tuesday it rained, and the bicycle got dirty. I did some repairs to it, replacing brake pads, and cleaning and lubing the chain. Today was a sunny day, great for commuting by bicycle. (Posting title is from the poem Repression of War Experience by Siegfried Sassoon.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Rock The photograph was taken on May 13th at Kytäjä-Usmi. The economy in Finland is doing fine, after a long hiatus, since the end of 2010. There are quite a lot of companies making initial public offerings in the stock market, and most of them are succeeding. I have taken part in several IPOs, in companies such as DNA (telecommunications), Fondia (law), Tokmanni (retail), Lehto (construction), Remedy (games), and Silmäasema (health). Most of the IPOs have been quite popular, and the amount...

Anemone The photograph was taken on May 7th in Petikko. It is really quite extraordinary that a stupid and dangerous clown is acting as the President of the United States. One shudders what can happen when a man with so diminutive capabilities, without any compassion, needs to make decisions. There is no other way to save the planet than to #resist. (Posting title is from the song We Shall Overcome by Bruce Springsteen.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Mihin Kreikassa? matkavinkkejä Kreikkaan ja kohdeideoita. Kreikassa on lukuisia käymisen arvoisia kohteita.

Frog The photograph was taken in Luukki on May 6th. Today the temperature was 3 °C in the morning and 8 °C in the afternoon. When riding the bicycle back home there was strong headwind, 12 m/s, and in gusts up to 18 m/s. The road was littered by twigs and branches fallen from trees. It seems that Trump has three main activities (between the tweets): obey commands from Putin and Russia (and their minions and collaborators) grab pots of money (preferably while playing golf) destroy the federal...

Fog The photograph was taken on May 1st in Luukki. This evening I spent some time at Linnanmäki amusement park with the children. The weather was cool, 11 °C, and at 7 pm it started to rain, but it was fine nevertheless. (Posting title is from the poem A Way of Being by Barbara Guest.) Street The photograph was taken on April 25th in Turku. Should I write something about the Trump sinkhole? Perhaps it is enough to note that fortunately there are people with courage and understanding who can put a stop to the bullying, whining and scamming that is perpetrated by the Orange One. (Posting title is from the poem History of My Heart by Robert Pinsky.) Posted by Juha Haataja at http://lightscrape.blogspot.com/

Light Scrape -

View The photograph was taken on April 22nd. This morning I walked for over two hours, exploring Timmermalmi nature protection area. The weather was warm, 18 °C, and birds were making a racket. If someone would have written two years ago a novel or a movie script about what is being revealed about Trump, nobody would have believed: The family (and here I use the word "family" in a meaning that is familiar from mafia movies) and people in key positions in the campaign have been engaged in...

Light Scrape -

Spring The photograph was taken on April 22nd. One can't help wondering about Trump. You could say that he is like a small child who whines about everything, except that the children I have known are much better behaved. Also, one should not think about him as a child, because he is extremely dangerous. Nothing is for him too perilous, too hazardous, too risky, or too unsafe. Also, not to forget, he is treacherous, and slippery like an eel. (Posting title is from the poem The Third Hour of the...
