After the last post I made a decision to order Lenovo Yoga and that arrived on Monday. My weekend spent so slowly when I just waited for Monday to come. I ended up choosing Lenovo instead of Mac because this was of course a bit cheaper, but in addition included more memory and I was interested in 2 in 1 feature which means that this works also as a tablet due to the touch screen. The screen turns 360-degrees and this is powerful enough for games and software. I tested to play with it and it...

Days seems to run from my view uncontrollably and one of my favorite month is nearly gone. Trees are changing their attires and I've been hunting haze views with my camera in the mornings. I would love to take the pictures about the thick fog, but so far the luck hasn't found me.  Last weekend we went to see a few gigs once again; Lasten Hautausmaa and Grave Pleasures. I hadn't seen Grave Pleasures before and actually I realized the singer's previous project Beastmilk is more familiar to me...

Hi everyone! Now it’s over – all summer holidays. We came back on Monday from Greece + Spain holiday. I tried to do some drawing, painting but I couldn’t really concentrate… So I forget September’s 29faces challenge this time. Here’s one I did for fun, one line drawing of Einstein

An outfit from the week. I managed to find a pencil skirt in the flea market a week ago and it was like new. The skirt is made of a stretchy material including a lining. I find it's pretty quality and fits perfectly. Sometimes I need to narrow a hip from the ready-made skirts because my hip is quite nonexistent, but not this time. A mesh shirt is many years old which I bought when I lived in Savonlinna and a harness is self made.  Shirt: Lindex, Skirt: Flea market, Harness: Diy During the week...

Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine many have been drawing parallels between the prelude to WW2 and the current Russian-driven crisis. What's really funny is how oblivious the Russians themselves are to these parallels (even while desperately trying to draw their own), making a whole bunch of historical ironies possible. Useful idiots who consider themselves anti-fascists were rallying behind Vladimir Putin in Moscow a few days ago with banners saying Putin, People, Russia . You...

Due to technical difficulties elaborated below (or above... this world of online text is so confusing) I missed two days of e-newspapers and therefore had only my notes to work on. I decided to construct one post on the 6th and 7th day from the remains of the two separate posts. Since I had no access to the original articles anymore, the post is necessarily more about general musings than this specific publication. ------- It's that wondrous time of the year again when all over the media little...

On my recent scavenger hunt I came across a postage stamp album with flower motifs. I do collect stamps myself, but a lot of the stamps were bulk issue from countries that used stamps as export goods. So I didn't feel they were too precious to use in mixed media. (Blog hop people, please read on!) I started by tearing up paers and collaging them onto a master board. When dry, I adhered different washi tapes all over. Then I used Brusho colors in green, turquoise and Prussian blue and let them...

I wish I could speak several other languages and all of them fluently. Especially languages like Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, French and Russian. I love to communicate with people and I love to learn about other cultures and their way of perceiving the world, and I think much of it is related to the language one uses and you never can get close enough without being able to understand the language. I wish I also would be able to maintain a better grip of myself, so that it would be possible to...

I've decided on doing a 365 day drawing challenge: http://instagram.com/juliaprusi . I’m going to make a post every fourth day with four sketches. I’ve given myself this challenge to improve both my observational abilities and my drawing skills. For this project I’ll not hesitate to explore styles and techniques I’m currently not familiar with. I’m excited to see how my style and skills will evolve! The Every Day Drawing Challenge is a full year of daily drawing. Please join me! If...

Atropos, 2014 2 years ago by Julia & Perttu Prusi Since last April I have bred two generations of Death's-head Hawk moths ( Acherontia atropos ). Acherontia species are notorious mainly for a vaguely skull-shaped pattern on the thorax. The skull pattern has burdened the moth with a negative reputation, such as associations with the supernatural and evil. There are numerous superstitions to the effect that the moth brings bad luck to the house into which it flies, and that death or grave...

While a house in a hilly area comes with a promise of stunning panoramic views of the surroundings, to their utter chagrin, homeowners quickly realize that working on a sloping backyard can be a harrowing task. However, the old adage, "More work equals to better results" certainly holds true in case of landscaping a sloping yard which presents innumerable opportunities for aesthetically pleasing inclusions that would otherwise look mundane. When planning a landscape for a hilly yard, it is...

I found new episodes of The Borgias on Netflix and, well. This happened. I live in Sweden now. I've been pretty busy lately with the new job and I haven't really been feeling like drawing. But yeah, things are okay.
