Magical Afternoon As a child I used to love to paint illustrations to fairy tales. This old love of mine has never really disappeared and now that I have Corel, I thought I might try to use it to do a magical painting. Nothing "serious" - but instead something that would be fun to do and to look at when it was finished. A beautiful black stallion, a jester holding a glass apple, hot air balloons in the late afternoon sky... This digital artwork was inspired by the beauty of Friesian horses, the...

Fallacy, 2009 gouache, acrylic and watercolor on rag paper --- Last week I visited the Galleria Heino in Helsinki and viewed the "Re-Trace" exhibition by artist Oliver Whitehead. It was fabulous! The exhibition runs through December 20, 2009, if you get a chance to stop by the gallery it is definitely worth the visit. I am so glad I went and saw it up close, photographs don't do this series justice. Mr. Whitehead works with different media, eg. film, video, digital imaging, photography...

I'm in full swing now. I should be reading for my exam, but this'll only take like five minutes. This is supposed to be Jessica Alba. As per usual, the resemblance is not exactly striking. I love the combination of creamy yellow and ocean blue/green. This one was fun to do because it was so quickly done. I like quick sketches the best really, even though I get the best results if I focus and spend hours on it. It's only on the rare occasion that I can calm myself down enough to do so. I'm...

Specialist of Finnish literature, Italian scholar and translator Antonio Parente sent me following questions. He has translated 6 of my poems in Italian and this interview will be included. Apart from poetry, you write prose and non-fiction books, essays: which genre is the one you consider the most efficient to deliver your message? 2. You are also a translator; could you tell the role of your previous translations (if any) in the process of creating your poems? 3. Could you name some of the...

In English: The Cathedral of Espoo. This church is easy to reach from Helsinki. Espoo as Vantaa are neighbouring urban districts of Helsinki. I have been visiting this medieval grey stone church in October 2005. Then I had just bought my first digital camera and I wondered what to photograph. So, I decided to start with churches and I realized that they are so beautiful and worth of photos. This was also because I am interested in history, art and culture and all these elements are found in...

The Golden Nile I am always curious about new ways of doing art. Also I felt I needed some serious cheering up after all the events of last year. So I thought I´d have a look at digital painting. I had heard of it but wasn´t quite sure what kind of an artform it was. Well I was in for a surprise. I found amazing artworks done with digital media. But how? So I sat a few evenings and read what I could find on the net. I learned that there are programs that really use digital brushes, digital...

And while it is a process that takes years to genuinely master, anyone with a basic education in piano and a working understanding of a couple of key techniques can create an inventive, satisfying arrangement. And anyone who plays a little piano can learn piano chords to add excitement to their piano playing. Many people learn how to play the piano by playing only the written music. Playing by composed music is exactly what the phrase says it's -- playing the exact notation onto a sheet of...

Everything in its right place. -

I faintly remember watching some science fiction film, then painting these. Or perhaps it was a book that I read, or a picture I saw online. I do know I was inspired by something. These naked men don't just pop into my mind out of nowhere, you and your dirty mind. The odd thing is, I usually forget the films that I've watched, like really fast. A week goes by, and I'll have enormous trouble trying to remember what the film was that I saw. Does that tell you something about how good my taste is...

I've been dead tired today and  been just rotting on the couch after the work. I hate when the energy level is zero and there would be loads of interesting affairs to do, but it's purely my own fault. I could go sleep early, but I'm a child of the night which means that I'm getting energetic just before the night. On the other hand I've been quite productive for the past days and brought about all kind of things so this tiredness is kind of very understandable.  Instead of whining I...

That was a relief. Instead I had constantly trouble with my right eye, still have, the field of vision is blurry and cloudy. Went to the eye clinic and now I have the diagnosis of posterior vitreous detachment . It’s common among elderly people, damn. I’m now also diagnosed as old! Well, I still...

Painting my life -

I think it´s quite clear that I´m a painter. But I would like to say something about my painting technique, this mixed media thing. For me that means first glueing the canvas. Then I rip some pages from newpapers and glue them with acrylic medium. Then I put gesso on those spots on canvas without any newspaper on them. And then begins the real painting! I have painted with oils for about three years but a few months ago I felt that I needed something different. I have used acrylic paints on...
