We've been looking for a boardgame and have heard plenty of good things about Ticket To Ride . Eventually we got the Europe edition , because the map looked a lot more interesting than in the original US edition. We've only played it together once, but came away impressed by the simple, rich rules. The components are also first-class. What really impressed me was their online version . You get a code with the boardgame which allows you to play the game's online version for an unlimited time...

Related to a discussion about winter weather and road conditions, I searched up a post in this blog a few years back. Embedded in the post is a YouTube video about slippery road conditions in Seattle. The video shows cars bumping into each other as drivers in Seattle are not accustomed to snow and ice […]

I am a healthy person. Regardless, I can't play Burnout for more than around half an hour at a time: I can't keep gas (RT) and nitro (A) down all the time without my right hand aching. I have often wondered how much my life would change if I was no longer able to hold a joypad or use a keyboard and mouse. (It's pretty scary, actually: people break their hands all the time.) Everyone is not as lucky as I am . I find the people's dickheadedness in this post's comments section astonishing. The guy...

I've been intrigued by the massively multiplayer games for a long time. I've played some Anarchy Online and tried free demos of a couple of others, but haven't really gotten into any of them, mostly due to the grind of the games being such a bore: the games don't properly start until you've invested dozens of hours and made friends with other players. These games are commonly called massively multiplayer online something-or-other , usually roleplaying games . The "massively" is just needless...

FI: 1.

Due to a memory failure earlier this week I ran out of toilet paper this morning and had to inspire. At the corner store, buying – among other essentials – toilet paper, I detected that I had forgotten to pick my new bank debet card and the old one had meanwhile expired. I was lucky […]

Recently my adopted home country has been pissing me off more and more. The weather is crap, dealing with any government organisation is painful and the small island has been feeling tinier by the day. I'm not one to stay in a crappy situation forever but the issue is where to go from here? The last time I felt like this was nearly ten years ago in Finland. I was so miserable that the decision of leaving was easy. I wanted out and it didn't really matter where to. Now I'm older, more careful...

August is ending and my hiatus with travelling seems to be over. I visited Tampere today, enjoyed my company’s Tampere office family day, and will fly to Oulu for a couple of days early next week. Then there is DrupalCon Europe, as every autumn. This year the event takes place in Vienna that I’ve visited last [...]

.. oikeastaan aika loistava asia, itseasiassa.

For a while I have been feeling pretty frustrated and bored when having to deal with people. Without sounding like a complete dick, I'm sick of listening to uninteresting, irrelevant shit about whatever their little world revolves around. I used to have patience, understanding and sympathy for these type of people but now I've just stopped listening. I'm not saying I'm always telling witty or intelligent stories. I'm not some sort of genius either. I don't think that to be smart, you'll have to...

Recently an anonymous someone approached me via text message to inform me about something. At first I thought it was some sort of a joke or prank. I still haven't established whether the stuff this person is telling me is true or not. But I now know that someone's been watching me for quite a while...

November is the hardest month in Finland – it is cold, dark, and wet. And when it is not raining, there is sleet coming from the skies and slush on the ground. The Finnish name of the month – ‘marraskuu’ – means the month of the death. Isn’t that lovely? Anyhow, the weather outside has made [...]

We’ve been spending the last few Christmas seasons at our home, but this year decided to go to my parents in North Carelia. After spending the first night in Polvijärvi at my younger sister’s old room, I strongly feel that we made the right choice. After a hectic autumn, the tranquility here is just awesome. [...]

I’ve been collecting interesting places to my must go places list from late 20th century, and it has gradually shrunk over the years. Not every year, but like six cities in a decade. This month I multiplied the pace by visiting in two places, first a week in Madrid, Spain, and then two days in [...]

This morning I started out by waking up at 7:15. This is pushing it for me since work is 15 minutes away, starts at 8:00, and I had to.... (takes a deep breath) Take a shower Find clothes to wear Find the keys Take the dog out Put on makeup Brush hair Eat breakfast Make lunch All in 30 minutes. Just as I was entering work thinking that I pulled it off I got a call from H. "Do you have the keys to the car?" OMG I did. Sitting in my purse from last night and of course we don't have a spare. So I...

It's possible that I haven't officially changed my home municipality since moving back here. Too bad that legally you have to notify the local register offices of a change of municipalities within a week of the switch or else . And there's no way to check it up anywhere. How stupid is that? So basically I'll have to walk up to the local offices and fess up my ignorance and generally just make an ass of myself. I am NOT happy about this. In other news: went for a walk before work today; work was...
