Susannas Travels -

Teen koosteen joulukuvista eri kohteissa marras/joulukuun ajoilta aiemmilta vuosilta: aloitetaan Ranskasta, kävelin Saksasta siltaa pitkin Saint Louisiin, Alsacessa. Siltaa ympäröi joki jossa joutsenet viihtyvät talvellakin. Olin tullut kohteeseen ratikalla Sveitsista. Sää oli syksymäinen ja joulumarkkinakojut valaistu. Kojuissa myytiin joulukoristeita, koruja ja paikallisia jouluherkkuja. Lapsille oli myös pieni karuselli. Tunnelma oli erilainen kuin saksankielisissä, jotenkin...

Päivi & Santeri - Matkalla elämässä ja maailmalla. -

--> We travelled to Uganda to make a website for a budget hotel and campsite in Masaka and ended up doing also a site for a company offering safaris and tours in Uganda . The project was rather demanding as there are regular power cuts, Internet connection is erratic, and working is limited to daytime because of malaria mosquitoes . That meant a lot of waiting for us which we didn't mind. Village life We stayed in a little local village five kilometres away from Masaka town, enjoying walks in...

I don't think the countries who frequently do well and win in the Eurovision could possibly understand the effects winnig the Eurovision can have on a nation that 1) is thirsty for international recognition 2) takes Eurovision song contest very seriously and 3) has never won before. The nation is going nuts. I have had so much fun today reading all the possible news sites and "post your comment" portals, nevermind the wide and vast Blogistan. And it is nice to do this from a distance: if I was...

Normal 0 21 false false false FI X-NONE X-NONE We had a lovely, sunny, warm summer. It was followed by mellow and glorious fall. But then, when November rolled around, it was like a bag was pulled over one’s head, suddenly it was dark, wet, dreary, without any sighting of sun.  I walked every day along the gray roads while the mist was hovering over my head. I think I got wet every single day, even though it was not raining. But it all was and is bearable because of my companions, the dogs...

Nordic Exposure -

I need to tell you something about myself and I figured this would be one way of doing it. If it bores you to death, move on. Usually I wake up sometime between 6 and 7 a.m. unless I need to sleep in. Saturdays and Sundays I often get to sleep until 8 but then my 4-year-old son wakes me up. Here I'll call him B, that's short for Baby Boy (I know he isn't a baby anymore but I get to call him that anyway, don't I). I drink some coffee, maybe read the paper and play a while with B. Once or twice a...

What comes to people's minds when they hear about Finland? I don't know, but if they can place it on the map, I guess they think it's so far up North it must be awfully cold all the time, there's loads of snow and ice bears roam the streets of Helsinki. Actually, it isn't as nice as that. Ice bears would perk up the picture (I know they are deadly beasts but they're also so cute, aren't they?). The truth about Helsinki in January is that it's bleak, wet, windy and chilly. The rest of the...

When we want to visit our relatives' summer cottage in Virrat , we usually take the bus. If you have the time and if the weather is nice, you should definitely take the 99-year-old steamboat Tarjanne instead. It takes about 6 hours from Tampere to Virrat , but it is worth every minute.

More shameless remarks by Larko -

Related to a discussion about winter weather and road conditions, I searched up a post in this blog a few years back. Embedded in the post is a YouTube video about slippery road conditions in Seattle. The video shows cars bumping into each other as drivers in Seattle are not accustomed to snow and ice […]

Catching up..still :) Here goes December: I attended a small miniature fair in an old villa by the sea. We kept it classy. We got to set up our tables in the most glorious light. The upstairs of Villa Rulludd is a museum. Worth a visit, if you are going by. Yes, I have a dirty mind. These stickers came from a kids' magazine... I lost it. I love the December dark, you can see all the lights so much better. I made orange, vanilla and rosemary marmalade for my colleagues. I bought pretty red...

This is brilliant, very creative thinking by the 'Silent Penguin' what could be the businessmodel? The Silent Penguin : "Social Weather 2.0 Here's an idea for a Weather site built around Web 2.0 goodness. There is probably something like this out there already - please let me know if so. It is ridiculous, really. This whole program, since December 2006, has gone so fast. A little too fast, perhaps. It's funny to think about actually going back to fin land in a couple of weeks. And sad, too. I t hink Sapporo, and my friends I made here, really grew on me. I feel at home. I feel at home with the bright dawns and early dusks, the energetic, bustling scene in the commercial district, the all-you-can- drink soirées in various i zakayas, the extremely annoying routine of getting up...

Last time I wrote here I had 3 weeks of summer break left. Now I have 3 days! :D I was supposed to write here earlier, but.. Better late than never. So, about the weekend I told you about in the previous post. I went to the FFfin-meeting and because the weather was pretty nice, warm but bit cloudy and windy, we went to beach. We had pretty fun there. AND after many many many years, I went to swim!!! It was nice :) We were there for few hours and then I headed home and others headed to...

Jag hade morgonsamlingar i lågstadiet den 1 december och började med att önska dem gott nytt år. Gaudium tills jag förklarade att kyrkoåret började vid Första söndagen i advent, två dagar tidigare. Fallacy, 2009 gouache, acrylic and watercolor on rag paper --- Last week I visited the Galleria Heino in Helsinki and viewed the "Re-Trace" exhibition by artist Oliver Whitehead. It was fabulous! The exhibition runs through December 20, 2009, if you get a chance to stop by the gallery it is definitely worth the visit. The black reading wall lamps, in the kitchen, are not a typical choice, but the homeowners like the way they looked. Kids room is festive and fun with...

I've been curious how the other people like their phones. I mean, of course, the people who use Android instead of the one true phone, the iPhone. My teenage daughter has been torturing a Samsung Galaxy Ace for a year now and I suggested to her we could exchange phones for a limited period of time. She said yes, a bit too eagerly. I suspect I will have a difficult time getting the iPhone 4S back. (I was told her friends at school said your dad must have lost a few marbles to do something so...
