When we want to visit our relatives' summer cottage in Virrat , we usually take the bus. If you have the time and if the weather is nice, you should definitely take the 99-year-old steamboat Tarjanne instead. It takes about 6 hours from Tampere to Virrat , but it is worth every minute.

Later that day the hobbits held a meeting of their own in Bilbo's room. After the massive conference in the previous chapter, Bilbo and Frodo recuperate, while Merry and Pippin insist they be allowed to go with Frodo. First, though, Elrond sends out scouts to gather information, and the hobbits spend two months hanging out in Rivendell. Eventually the scouts return, with little news except that the Nazgûl are gone, though probably not destroyed. So it's time to leave for Mordor. But who's...

26.3.2014 Finland. I'm sitting is some completely unrecognisable office cafeteria, in the table next to me someone is pronouncing the names of European cities in a disgustingly Finnish way, the kitchen reminds me of an old school cafeteria.  Finland and the spirit of it is Nokia proudness, bad postures, lifeless lights, juice concentrate, goatees, grey discreet metal eyeglasses, grated carrots, leafless trees in the ruthless and ugly spring light, gravel everywhere, foldaway furniture. A...

It's About Me, Amoena -

Over a year ago I met my old school friend by accident. I had not seen her for years, I think it had been like seven years since I had seen her the last time. But there she was, suddenly, in the same train with me. We quickly chatted, shared quick updates about our lives, ans agreed to stay in touch and meet up again. Well. I am not exactly good at organizing things. All I ever want to do is to stay home with my boyfriend. I don't want to go outside my own little home. And she was bad at...

From Theseus.fi Lately there has been a lot of talk about the extinction and preservation of the Finn horse. The breed is not yet endangered, but the researchers and breeders worry that the genetic material is narrowing (too fast). If we … Continue reading →

The 1 food ingredient secretly making us fat   I'm a big fan of eating natural foods and avoided processed junk. So today I want to talk about some important information from Dr. Charles. On his website he goes into detail about the #1 food ingredient secretly making us fat. >>> Watch This Video From Here What's this dangerous ingredient? High Fructose Corn Syrup, which is a man

The Sufferfest provides the time-crunched cyclist structured workouts, and integrated training plans for indoor riding. Motivational video footage from grand tours and other races make it feel you're racing with others. The frame story is about Sufferlandrians who refuse to get dropped and who value pain, agony, and misery. This is the pep-talk you better get used to in The Sufferfest. Most of the exercises are short (30-60 minutes) and have a very detailed prescription. The 4DP or...

Ain't talking -

Recently my adopted home country has been pissing me off more and more. The weather is crap, dealing with any government organisation is painful and the small island has been feeling tinier by the day. I'm not one to stay in a crappy situation forever but the issue is where to go from here? The last time I felt like this was nearly ten years ago in Finland. I was so miserable that the decision of leaving was easy. I wanted out and it didn't really matter where to. Now I'm older, more careful...

People 1 People 2 Photographs of “Silent People” (“Hiljainen kansa” in Finnish), a creation of artist Reijo Kela, were taken at Suomussalmi on July 5th. This morning I walked for 2 1/2 hours at Sipoonkorpi National Park, exploring the swamps. I found some cloudberries for tasting, as well as blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. I thought about nazi deplorables while walking, the evil they are perpetrating. The White House is these days a nest of vipers. Abhorrent. (Posting title...

Hellooo! It's been a week since me and Paris arrived to Tokyo , and because it has been raining since last evening, we decided to take today off and just relax at our guesthouse. If you've been following me and/or Paris on Snapchat (me: @kisumaikuchuuru paris: @pariseffect ) you might already know what we've been up to, but if not (I'm highly gonna recommend you to do so!) here's some pictures I've managed to take so far. This is my third visit to Tokyo and for some reason it doesn't feel like...

On Friday we went to the Imperial Palace in order to visit the Eastern Gardens but they are closed on Mondays and Fridays so we decided to walk around the palace. While the weather is hot and moist it is not unbearable to walk a few kilometers. The moats, walls, bridges and towers of the palace are impressive. Next day we went again to the palace and the Eastern Gardens were open. The gardens are very beautiful and the remnants of the Edo Castle are interesting. Dont miss the palace if you go...

This is brilliant, very creative thinking by the 'Silent Penguin' what could be the businessmodel? The Silent Penguin : "Social Weather 2.0 Here's an idea for a Weather site built around Web 2.0 goodness. There is probably something like this out there already - please let me know if so. Basically the idea hinges around something I read once, that stated the highest chance of forecasting the correct weather for the next day was to say that it would be the same as today. I can't remember where I...

Welcome to new band section, SINAMORE´s diary The Art Of Regret. We´ve been going on with quiet period, as you might have been notest. Still we haven´t stop playing or composing music and that´s why we got this idea to build a place for our thoughts. Because we think that would be feelin´ weird to add every single thought or protest on our official site. In this area we will share information from rehearsal place, studio and when we´re on a road, but also just general talk what´s going...

What a great waste of time! I’ve been playing chess more or less since the age of five. And now after 32 years when I might win my first tournament, I would be willing to give it all away. I do not think it is just selfish of me to talk about this (now that I might get my first victory) but I’d also like to warn some of my closest and at the same time appraise what a great waste of time chess is.

The kids wanted to go to on an overnighter again and last Saturday was a good time for that. Full moon, clear sky later in the evening and possibly some rain in the early evening was the weather forecast. Since the last overnighter two weeks earlier the day had shortened by 1 h 17 minutes, but there still was enough light to put up the tent in good light. This time I wanted to check out the north side of the Matildanjärvi lake. We jumped into the car for the one hour ride to Mathildedal a...

Let's get this party started! There are many milestones in our children's lives that we mark with celebration. And there is no better time to celebrate than when your child is taking their first steps into education. Whether you're a stay-at-home mom who's child has been home for the last five years or a mom who works outside the home with a child in daycare, going to school or starting a homeschooling program is going to be a big change in your child's daily life. What better way to get them...

Finns Down Under -

I thought I would share a bit of critique I have received from the book. Mainly the critique has been positive. Readers have given positive feedback from the images and the general look of the book. Some people have given thanks for the translations (many children of the first generation immigrants do not have a good grasp of Finnish) and some people have given special thanks for letting the voice of the interviewees to be heard in the text. The voice has also been the most criticized part of...

Now that I've returned to Magic , I want to take a moment to talk about the cards. Especially in an era of digital entertainment, part of the appeal of any card game is having the actual physical cards to handle, shuffle and look at. With Magic, this is what my high school history teacher would have called a double-barreled sword. On the one hand, I have to be honest: in terms of overall looks and design, getting back to Magic has strongly reminded me of how well-designed the cards of the Lord...

Still alive after the absence. I've been living inside the hurricane or at least it feels like that  metaphorically. All the affairs around me have flown tumbled  and I've been watching the chaos in the middle of the whirl. Not the best summer at all. Almost nothing happened like I planned and in addition the weather has been very poor.  Also the move came earlier as I assumed, but that was okay. I've settled down into the new home now and it's pretty and homey, but requires still...

Colors The photograph was taken on October 14th. We are having cold and dry weather, but for the weekend the weather forecast promises somewhat warmer. Today I commuted by car and train, but tomorrow I'm once again riding the bicycle. In Finland, the amount of taxes carried for each person and company is public information. Today was the day the information was released for the year 2016, and this produced quite a lot of interest and discussions. (Posting title is from the poem Pyrography by...

The weather forecast promises a little bit of new snow for tomorrow, but I'm planning to commute by bicycle anyway, hoping that the paths are okay for riding the bicycle. We had a lovely wander in the island park of Seurasaari yesterday, hence I had time to make no new jewellery yesterday. But as nature has been one of my greatest inspirations regarding any activity, the time was quite well enjoyed in many senses. Well, my feet aren't very appreciative. However, here's a double feature regarding summer weather here in the north. Unfortunately the latter has been in short supply this summer. After rain is a middling-length rope made of green keshi, faceted clear...
