There’s a peculiar vehicle on the loose! The Lace Bus is cruising through Vantaa on the line 55, until the end of September. It’s the creation of artist Virpi Vesanen-Laukkanen, famous of her candy wrapper dresses, and a part of OTTO- exhibition, recently opened in Vantaa Art Museum. I’ve been lucky to visit the bus […]

I received the final package of my Secret Pal 11. As soon as I got the big box in my hands at the post office I realised this was going to be something really grand. Made haste, got home and immediately opened the box. Someone else was interested, too. Sain viimeisen Secret Pal 11-vaihdon paketin. Se oli täynnä ihanuuksia ja lämpöä.   First thing to get my attention was the wonderful scent from the small (homemade?) gingerbreads. What a lovely idea! I'm munching them as we speak...

Let me introduce some of my latest shoe shoppings! Actually I bought these Minna Parikkas Starlet pumps as a 30-year peresent for my self. I was wearing them at my birthday party :) I love the red patent leather and a heart shaped pattern in them! I found them used, so I would say they were inexpensive. I found these Vivienne Westwood Melissa pumps as used too. I love smell of the rubber :D I love pink! I'm just not a pink person, if I can say it that way. Pink clothes does not suit me very...

Happy with my finished Christmas decoration! Starched lace crochet. Here's the house without lights: I sewed the roof pieces together at the top but the roof itself is just set on top of the walls. This makes it easier to fit the lights.     This was the first time I tried this and I'm happy with most things. I starched this using 50-50 sugar-water solution. Next time I might use glue-water to make it harder.  Haven't decided yet where I will display the house!

I'm so behind on this blogging thing, I need to get my act together! It's New Year already and I'm still into summer knitting. Yeah well, life kind of got in the way. Between getting a full time job and opening up an online yarn shop.. there just wasn't that much free time I guess. Also blogger was acting up. In a bad way! But it seems to be behaving today so here goes.. Some lacy things, from this summer.   My little girl needed something to wear for a wedding, and this little shrug was...

For being a person who doesn't knit shawls, I've sure knit an awful lot of them this year..! ;-) First up I give you the Hogwarts Express shawl , with owls on it! The owls have beads for eyes, greyish blue 6/o Gutermann glass beads that I thought went really well with the yarn. The yarn is Fleece Artist Trail Socks in the Salt Sprey colorway. Perhaps not as soft as for instance Malabrigo sock, but lovely colors! This shawl I've actually worn a couple of times. Amazing, I know! It's special also...

On Sunday evening we were adventuring around my old corners and stopped by this art center which actually was very unfamiliar location to us both. I lived close to it before and have passed by it several times, but I didn't know what that place really keeps inside. It's an old mental hospital or at least I have heard a legend of that. These days there seems to act an art center and they coincidentally had an exhibition going on. I was just going to see the coffin which was filled with the books...

We paid a visit to the church on last Sunday, not because we wanted to praise the lord, but we were interested in hearing the game music when it was played by using the organ of the church. The organ is the fine instrument and the acoustics is always special in the church. In addition the church is very magnificent, it keeps inside an artwork from my favorite artist (or one of them) : Hugo Simberg. I definitely recommend to visit here if you are around the corner.  I'm not at all religious...

Antti Alanen: Film Diary -

The former soldier, Mederic Rompel, familiarly called Mederic by the country folks, left the post office of Roily-le-Tors at the usual hour. After passing through the village with his long stride, he cut across the meadows of Villaume and reached the bank of the Brindille, following the path along the water's edge to the village of Carvelin, where he commenced to deliver his letters. He walked quickly, following the course of the narrow river, which frothed, murmured and boiled in its grassy...

It's hard to start writing after a long pause. Actualy, I have been thinking about writing here for a long time. I just haven't done it. I partly blame writer's block and partly thesis... I also wasn't sure if to start blogging again about a trip to a volcano or about knitting. Well, even though some of you might prefer the volcano, you'll get knitting pictures for now. There are less pictures of my projects than of the volcano, so it's simply easier. But I promise the volcano pics later! Even...

Is This (photographic) Art? -

Ran into the concept of artworld and its interesting definitions. One specifically caught my attention, namely one by Howard Becker ( Art Worlds . Berkley : University of California Press, 1982). The basic idea is that artworlds are communities of networked individuals and that art is collective actions within the community. To blend in some Forrest Gump - Art is what artist does, sir! Thinking it like this makes it easier to accept that there no (and can't be) specifiq measures on defined...

I'll be celebrating the 170 years of photography by learning about the art part in fine art photography. Not being a photography or art student, I'll need to set up my own method and goals of learning - the curriculum. Collaborative efforts are welcome by the way... I'll be defining and refining this curriculum in upcoming posts but in the meantime I need to make some peak previews. In the previous post I was wondering how can one tell - as a consumer of art - the difference between a...

Today I found something on facebook: a video of solar bottle light in the Philippines. I just came from there three weeks ago. We battled with the lack of electricity at times. And we read our books with the help of a flashlight. These families living in the urban poor areas are living without light all the time. How innovative is the solar bottle light! I've been on the road and at various places during the last few weeks, and somehow have managed to develop a backlog of projects and yarns to photograph and report.
