View 1 View 2 The photographs were taken on February 20th in Luukki. We got more rain today, and the snow and ice has melted away from most of the road between home and work. Those parts where snow and ice still remains are not so good for riding the bicycle, and there are puddles of water hiding ice bumps and ridges. And plenty of slush. Hei täällä Snow White, eikun Ninna, eikun Lumikki.. Damn I don't know!

Snow 1 Snow 2 Snow 3 The photographs were taken at Velskola on February 21st. The weather got colder today, -1 °C in the morning and -3 °C in the afternoon. There was ice on the road, and heavy headwind when riding back home from work. So far this year I have got 909 km riding the bicycle. The brake pads are wearing out fast during winter. Today I installed new pads both in front and back, and I expect that I need to replace them within three weeks or so. (Posting title is from the poem The...

Snow 1 Snow 2 The photographs were taken on January 1st, 2018. I commuted by bicycle today, but it was slow going because there was 5-10 cm of new snow on the road. It took 65 minutes to get to work, and the same time back home. (Posting title is from the poem Water Water Water Wind Water by Juan Felipe Herrera.) There was 15-25 cm of unbroken snow on the ground. Well, unbroken except for some deer tracks. (Posting title is from the poem The Water Diviner by Dannie Abse.) Snow 1 Snow 2 The photographs were taken in Meiko on February 24th. This morning I walked for two hours in north parts of Nuuksio, visiting seven lakes: Poika-Suolikas, Lummukas, Syvä-Antias, Iso-Antias, Levo-Antias, Sammalkuoho and Suolikas. In many places the snow was frozen so that it carried a man walking. When I started walking, the temperature was -12 °C, and when I returned, -5 °C. Dead flowers under the snow. (Tampere Dec. 2010.) Valokuvatorstain 155. haaste on lumi . Lumi peittelee luonnon nukkumaan, valkaisee maiseman tasaiseksi, peittää värit, hautaa unohtuneet esineet, yltää parvekkeellekin, piilottamaan unohtuneet, rapistuneet, kuolleet kesän kukat.

View 1 View 2 The photographs were taken at Velskola on February 21st. This morning I went for a walk in the north parts of Sipoonkorpi national park. The snow was frozen, but didn't carry a person walking, except in places where there were ski tracks or tracks from animals. I managed to get a bit lost, which was great, and found plenty of new sights. (Posting title is from the poem History of My Heart by Robert Pinsky.) View The photograph was taken at Soidinsuo swamp in Nuuksio on April 1st. This week I have commuted through the central park in Helsinki. I had forgotten how good it feels. And today I met horses both in the morning and afternoon while riding the bicycle. During the winter one needs to go through crowded streets and stop at traffic lights in Pasila. Also, I realized today that this winter I didn't crash while riding the bicycle in slippery conditions. I installed studded winter tires quite...

View 1 View 2 View 3 The photographs were taken on February 17th in Helsinki. Yesterday I walked for three hours in Petikko, across the snow-covered fields and forests. By the Petikko golf field there were bird observers with telescopes and tripods by the roadside, and when I walked up the snow-covered field they asked whether I had seen anything. "Just landscape", I answered. (Posting title is from the poem We're Just about to Observe the Edge of the Universe by Albert Goldbarth.) Posted by...

Depth of snow was 30 cm and I thought that snow shoes might be a good idea, even though the tall rubber boots were almost tall enough to cope with the snow.
