Lipstick Love -

No, kuinkas kävi? Kauhistuin ensi alkuun, että ei hitto tässä on...

There has been some time now, that I've not updated this blog. I found recently on the Facebook, a link to stunning night timelapse video from northern Finland (what is really worth of mentioning). The photos and video is made by Henri Luoma. Click here to see the colorful nightscapes.

Sadun langoilla -

Picture Hanhensulka: a Superb Fairy-wren (Malurus cyaneus) in Victorian Alps, Australia Everybody knows that the Australian national poet, 'bush poet', is Andrew Barton "Banjo" Paterson , who is well-known world-wide for the often misunderstood words of a poem called Waltzing Matilda , the unofficial Australian national anthem. It should, for all fairness, be the official anthem, too. Try to sing the current anthem, (by an order of the Queen Elizabeth II's representative in the Land of Oz, the...

Kootut murut -

I was flipping through my old decor magazines as I stumbled into this dreamy Swedish home in Divaani . I had bookmarked it before and could immediately remember why. It's so stunning. It was photographed by Petra Bindel , who I guess is the interior photographer on everyone's lips at the moment. At least I seem to be bumping into her photos constantly, and no wonder. They are stunning. From her portfolio I could see the same home in Elle Interiör . I love how this home is both soft and...

Pietari / St. Petersburg 13.7.2018. Iisakinkirkko (ven. Исаакиевский собор, Isaakijevski sobor) on Pietarin tunnetuimpia nähtävyyksiä. Ortodoksisen Iisakinkirkon rakentaminen kesti neljäkymmentä vuotta 1818–1858, mistä suomen kieleen on jäänyt ikuisuushanketta tarkoittava ilmaisu: ”rakennetaan kuin Iisakinkirkkoa”. Kirkolla oli aikoinaan katedraalin asema. Iisakinkirkko on maailman neljänneksi korkein kupolirakennus (101,5 metriä), Rooman Pietarinkirkon, Lontoon...

Numenorian Chronicles -

The topic of this post is borrowed from the book by Gichin Funakoshi , father of Shotokan-school of karate, who is also considered to be a "father of modern karate". While I don't agree with that completely - I would rather put that label on Sokon Matsumura , who practically built the framework for the current popularity of karate and set the roots for Shorin-ryu -family of karate - I think that Funakoshi's ideological approach and work in Japan did make it possible for karate to spread...

Daedalos Memento -

2006 may well be the year of dawn of a new era for business aviation, which has been anticipated ever since William Lear Jr. rolled out his first LearJet-23 in October 1963. Although successful (but accident-prone in the beginning: 10 of the first 100 produced were destroyed), Lear Jet was clearly meant for very rich people, who would fly from their New York, London, Moscow or Jeddah luxury homes to equally luxurious villas in Florida or French Riviera, before boarding a luxury yacht for a day...

Stephu's Complete Guide to Celestial Linguistics -

So there's been another small break in posting, yes? Well, the reason, besides time and motivation related problems, is mostly this: The ideas in my head worth writing about usually are either about science/the humanities, ecological/social issues or "philosophy". The first two or four are something other people are more qualified to write about and all you people out there deserve to read about them from knowledgeable sources, which I mostly am not, not even about linguistics beyond the...

View 1 View 2 The photographs were taken in Helsinki on February 26th. This morning I walked for 2 hours 20 minutes around lake Meiko, visiting lake Vaipo and lake Vitträsk as well. In many places the frozen snow carried a person walking. I walked through the open swamp Slätmossen. On the Meiko lake there were people skiing and ice-fishing, but otherwise it was very quiet. So last century * -

So some of you may have noticed I've been missing from the blogosphere for a while now... the reason being I was pre-occupied with completing my bachelor of arts degree. I am happy to report that I have finished and am now free to do as I please! As I mentioned in a previous post, for my Final Major Project (FMP) I chose to use The Collector by John Fowles as my text and focused on the connection between the study of entomology and serial killer behaviour made in the book. As interested as I am...

Petra visited during spring break a few months ago to take these photos for Oyster  and we were way in our own world and it was so pretty and kind of like Heavenly Creatures without the murder and stuff. You can see the spread here , where I also wrote a little bit, but these are my favorites, and I happen to be looking down in almost all of them! It was just really satisfying to make a thing with someone whose brain is similar when it comes to colors/the various subcategories of suburban...

Oy vey, I've given up on collecting all the images/playlists/collages/stickers/diary entries/etc. necessary for my usual all-encompassing VIBES posts. The task has suddenly become really daunting! And tedious! And a blog is probably not the best format for being retrospective and examining all the music/movies/outfits/etc. I was into at a certain time and looking at the colors and motifs and things they share and finding the conceptual parallel. Rookie's monthly themes are a good place for...

WELL HI. We have a lot to catch up on. I guess I've put off writing this because there is SO MUCH. It was always in the back of our minds that we* would do a yearly print edition of Rookie , and by the time May rolled around, we realized that we should probably get on that if we wanted to publish it in time for our September anniversary. After a call with Drawn & Quarterly  (and years of admiring basically everything they publish), it was clear that they were the perfect publisher for...

LONG TIME NO TALK. Here's what's happened since last spring: Rookie Yearbook Two is out ! It is the print edition of our best content from our second year as a website and I am crazy proud of it. This one was a real labor of love -- I flew to Montreal twice to work with Drawn & Quarterly in person, and what you see in these pages came from two suitcases full of my clothes, trinkets, jewelry, cut-outs, record covers, journals, et cetera times infinity. It is so hugely satisfying to have put our...

Yikes, what is the function of this blog anymore? Everything is basically on my Instagram, but out of habit or a need for tidiness, here's the latest...(crickets, crickets): ☆ The Crucible closed , then  The Cherry Orchard opened! I played Anya, and wrote a little about that show's timeliness  here , which is mostly a piece about the election, and the importance of championing humility, nuance, and complexity as antidotes to how little truth or factualness seem to matter right about now...

Today I am 20.  The Crucible , in which I play Mary Warren,   opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre three weeks ago, March 31st—also the eight-year anniversary of this blog. I have a lot of trouble comprehending that writing Style Rookie led to writing for other places, then starting Rookie , then being able to audition for plays that I love and to be inside of them for long periods of time, which is an inexplicably wonderful way to live a life. But I am really really really insanely thankful...
