the music for this Because I always feel like running Not away, because there is no such place Because, if there was I would have found it by now Because it’s easier to run, Easier than staying and finding out you’re the only one…who didn’t run Because running will be the way your life and […]

A journey to a healthier life. -

I've never, ever, ever have liked running. Never. In fact, I even remember my gym class teacher once telling me that I couldn't run. Like that was a hard fact that couldn't be changed. At least after then, I've never even tried jogging. This autumn I've taken a project to start living at least a little bit healthier. So, as a part of my project, I went walking (speed-walking, you might say) around two weeks ago, for the first time in an extremely long time. I didn't go alone, no, I had my iPod...

It was -24 C in Finland during my xmas holiday there but it did not prevent me from photographing. Cold weather like that just requires some preparations. The most important one for your gear is to prevent condensation. Condensation happens when cold camera is brought indoors. Fog appears on lens surfaces etc and that moist can damage your camera internals as well. Preventing condensation is simple. You need put a camera inside a plastic bag before entering indoors. Wrapping camera inside a bag...

Planet Procrastination -

Remember, I read this piece by Haruki Murakami in the New Yorker. He is one of my favourite writers, and also a jazz-aficionado and a long distance runner. He runs every day. He probably writes every day. Don't know how much he jazzes every day, but that's beside the point.I said I wanted to run and write every day, because that'd help me write my thesis and also get me fit. Then life happened

Ilmoittauduin Tampereen puolimaratonille, joka järjestetään 9.9. Juoksin viime viikon keskiviikkona 23 kilometriä, ja viikonloppuna noin 5 kilometriä. Tänään aion käydä lyhyellä kilpavauhtia hieman nopeammalla lenkillä ja perjantaina hyvin kevyellä ja lyhyellä "valmistelevalla" lenkillä. Startti on lauantaina vasta kello 15. Koetan nyt pitää lähinnä huolen lihashuollosta ja nivelistä; varsinaista venyttelyä en harrasta nyt, sillä se vie puhdin juoksusta, mutta pieniä...

Happy Training for Masochist's Dream -

23.5 -biking 18 K in the morning and 18 K in the afternoon, about 45-50 minutes per time. Biking is a new innovation to end pollution and climate heating. It is also a handy way to get to the work place. Tomorrow I've to bike all the way, some 35 kilometres, because my beautiful classic car got a severe flu (mysterious problems with battery that empty itself). Today I biked only half of the entire journey. 22.5 -implementation of biking to the training program and also to the everyday life...

Just tried to make a small Android demo app using ReactNative. The really hard part was JavaScript, but I am certainly not going give out any advice on that. The next hardest part was running the damn thing on a Android device. In principle their "hello world" app should be easy to run, just attach a device and run: react-native init HelloFuckingWorld cd HelloFuckingWorld react-native run-android Instead of your "hello world" you get a nasty red screen telling you that the app cannot connect to...

It's About Me, Amoena -

I ran a half marathon yesterday. I felt that maybe I should blog something about it, since most people consider it a quite big deal. I, on the other hand, have really mixed feelings now when I have actually finished it. It was just so much easier than I expected. I expected it to be kind of a struggle but in the reality it was just a really long run. I wasn't considerably different than my regular 10km runs. I signed up in February. I wanted to sign up as early as possible so I wouldn't chicken...

Olen ihan myyty. Kuvat

The Classic Short Boot from UGG Australia is a rugged, handsome boot with an eight-inch shaft length. Like all UGG Boots, it is made of genuine Grade A sheepskin with the fleece turned inward to take advantage of its natural thermal properties. This boot has the typical UGG style with its dome-shaped toe and prominent stitching. Of course, the UGG boots label is displayed on the heel. Knit more - Neulo enemmän I was interviewed for the English version of a Sweden based knitting site called Knitmore.com . They have an interview of the month feature, where they interview a different knitting enthusiast every month. I was the third person, miss March:), to be interviewed for the English site. Their Swedish sister site, Stickamera.se , has been running these interviews successfully for quite a while now. If you are interested in what I have to s ay about knitting, po p over...

Roadside Burger Blog -

This was my second burger with a journalist from Helsingin Sanomat. He's making a story about hamburgers and I was interviewed for the article while tasting several burgers. Harrin nakki (Harri's Hotdog) is a typical Finnish grill kiosk. A little booth standing in the corner of local park in the middle of Helsinki. Back in the days the architecture varied from trailers to wooden booths but the city of Helsinki standardized the outlook of these kiosks a few years back. This particular kiosk has...

outrageous outings -

on my way to nyc last november, i realized a long awaited dream of mine. visiting iceland had been on the list of to-dos for years, and the opportunity presented itself almost accidentally. friends were heading over to airwaves festival in reykjavik and offered their couch for me to crash on on my way. the layover on icelandair costs no extra, so well, why the hell not. the festival packs the city with music fans from all over the world, and therefore my experience probably wasn't the most...

outrageous outings -

i realized last summer that i had not had the opportunity to enjoy the holidays that i had earned. since i worked for a project that lasted only till the end of the year, i was presented with a few weeks of leisure. add overtime, and there was plenty. last fall there were five weeks left, so on a plane i hopped to see a dear friend. sandy had visited just a few days before, and i landed into a city that was moved by donation rallies, a barely working subway system, was to be hit by a blizzard...

Christmas, the most commercial religious holiday of all is approaching. One might think that the materialistic, carnevalistic celebration of religious holidays would not have reached Bhutan yet – wrong. The two tsechu s, religious festivals I have testified in Thimphu, the capital and in Bumthang, Central Bhutan have had a vast selection of attractions outside the official programme of sacred dances ( cham ): gambling, drinking, dancing girls...you know, the usual things you would associate...

Gagan ( From My Lil Window) -

For the last few days, I think my most frequently visited page was Google maps (to plan my euro trip)... oh how easy it is now-a-days to plan a trip! Other than making a trip plan, probably everyone has tried to zoom on the roof of their house, or walked around the street using street view. That's fun for a while. Anyways, while the google car is silently driving by your window, capturing of interesting moments are inevitable. Kids falling... running box...non-stop fun :D source: streetviewfun...

Almost, anyway... The Episcopal House of Deputies elected Canon Gene Robinson as bishop of New Hampshire. His appointment to the post by the House of Bishops, his future peers, was to be a rubber-stamp routine operation. Robinson would have then become the first openly homosexual person to hold such a high position in one of the major Christian churches - after Canon Jeffrey John turned down his own appointment as the Bishop of Reading. While there is, if not evidence, then at least certainly...

Making Indigoflood's Rats and Hatchets -

So we got at it again last weekend. The big break was due to the three song recorded last time being mixed ready for promotional/distributional use. I already waved them around at Popkomm a little bit, so hopefully someone will catch the wave that's going to hit their shores in 2009. We got up an going 6.30 in the morning on saturday. A time that's not very helpfull for the success of the weekend... Arriving at 9.30, with a car full of tired rock-personel, we got Aki to work. Drum recordings...

X Window System on verkkoläpinäkyvä ikkunointijärjestelmä. XSync() odottaa kunnes xserver on toteuttanut kaikki operaatiot. Yhteys palvelimelle avataan funktiolla Display *XOpenDisplay(char *display_name)...

I spent the entire last weekend playing this game. If it had a less interesting story, I probably would have given up in the boss fight of episode 3, where I got stuck the first time, but I really wanted to see more. The following contains spoilers. I decided I needed to buy some time, so I searched for a game guide listing all the locations of the SAT Patches. Then I started a new game and made sure I picked up every one of them in the first three episodes. This time, when I got to the Zorn, I...

Life Between The Shoeboxes -

Such a rare treat to spend a weekend in Sydney nowadays. Deviant and I spend all our time running up and down the coast and never really get to enjoy the city life anymore.Well, this long weekend was a refreshing change. We went to see a joined album launch gig by The Snowdroppers and Nici Blue Eyes on Saturday. And I have to say, it was one of the most enjoyable gig nights out I've ever

We’ve learned how important regular exercise is for us. While running through the green parks and forests we appreciate the natural environment around us. But do we ever think if your sport routines have any impact on the environment somehow. The impacts are obvious if we have a large motor boat to cruise around. If boating is not the thing for you, there are still few rules of thumb to keep in

Wild joys and wilder sins -

I’m on a study break right now. A month of independent studying at home before the final exams. I guess it’s relaxing in a way, not having to worry about school stuff or work. On the other hand though, I’m still stressed as hell because I’m not studying enough. Every day is a struggle as I try to force myself to open the books and read and do math and make notes. I set a goal of 5 hours per day but I’ve already fallen behind. Today, I studied for about 2-3 hours. WHERE THE HELL IS MY...

Wow, what a massive party weekend! Today it's the the last ever Rumble at Inkonst in Malmö. The Rumble is somewhat of a club institution in Scandinavia, running for almost five years with guests like Diplo , Buraka Som Sistema , David Rodigan , Bode do Role , Sinden , Simian Mobile Disco , DJ Funk , Crookers , A-Trak , Scottie B , Rusko , Skream and so many more . I was playing there in April 2009 and it has been one of my top5 gigs ever. But this time it's a very special end party with DJ...

Just for fun -

I'm taking the basic or introductory course on operating systems which pretty much means reading about 600 pages of Tanenbaum's Modern Operating Systems and then going to the final exam. Some of things in the book like solving the classical IPC (InterProcess Communication) problems using the different IPC primitives (semaphores, monitors etc.) that include writing pseudocode. I think I'll understand and remember them better by writing them down as blog entries with possibly illustrations. This...
