I visited Yard and Garden Fair in Turku on Friday and it was such an inspiring visit! Niin kivasti toteutettuja messualueita. Tämäkin oli tosi hauska, kukkia värjätyissä kangaspussukoissa pyykkinarulla. So many nicely done areas on the Fair. This was so funny, flowers hanging in dyed fabric bags on a laundry rack. Ja niin paljon tulppaaneja - aah! And so many tulips - aah! Minulla on...

Garden 1 Garden 2 Garden 3 The photographs were taken at Dutch garden in London's Holland Park on August 2nd. This morning I walked two hours at Tremanskärr, going across swamps. There were no deer fly. I tasted raspberries and lingonberries. The cranberries are not yet ripe. While walking I did a little bit of thinking about Trump. The United States doesn't have a president after Obama, just a creature that can simulate a human being for a short while if he is tightly controlled and scripted...

View 1 View 2 The photographs were taken at Kaisaniemi botanic garden in Helsinki on November 1st. The depth of snow is now 9 cm, and apparently snow will remain until Sunday when there will be plenty of rain. (Posting title is from the poem Blood on the Wheel by Juan Felipe Herrera.) so my friend 'family man from espoo' was in london for business and stayed with us the weekend. all good. but the interesting part? i got a late christmas gift. he'd digitalized an old VHS video i had asked him to store years ago (when i moved abroad). now, i got back the VHS...and the content on a USB stick. what a surprise. and so awkward to see something i could vaguely remember but hadnt seen in a decade or two. the video was from a concert at my junior high school (1993), i'd rented a...

** DAYDREAMING IN HELSINKI ** -

I moved from Helsinki in August. I moved 450 km north west to the west coast of Finland, to a city called Vaasa. My little baby boy is no longer a baby - he started school this fall. My dog Jekku is no longer barking, he is in the dogs' heaven since March this year. My husband had been working in Vaasa already for 4 years. He was tired with the train rides back and forth. And I wanted my husband to be around 7 days a week. So we decided to move to Vaasa. Finding a house was a quick process. I...

Good morning and have an inspiring Friday! I will head to Garden Fair in Turku with my mom today and my thoughts are in late Spring. I already wait for that moment in Spring when I can pick these gorgeous purple lilacs. And start planning what kind of plants to put on our terrace etc. Well I guess Spring will arrive slowly but steadily... It's just that time passes SO slowly when you wait for something. -- Huomenta kaikille ja inspiroivaa perjantaita! Tänään suuntaan Turkuun...

Joku pitkäaikainen lukija saattaa muistaa minun hihkuneen ilosta ostettuani toissatalven lopulla Ril'sin beigenväriset, etäisesti liskopintaiset nupukkisaappaat .  Saappaiden malli on kaikessa klassisuudessaan äärimmäisen kaunis.

Motoristin Mutsi at home and garden -

We are spending Midsummer weekend at home. No festival, no summer cottage, no camping area. Just home. And garden. There is so much blooming at this time of year - and when nighsts are light, it can be seen almost all night long. Like columbines... and  Rhododendrons... Spotted hawkweeds, which sleeps in nights... Lady' s mantles with bright yellow-green inflorescences... Daisies... Cow parsley... woodland geranium... After the dew has landed, they spread their scents allover. Dame's...

View 1 View 2 The photographs were taken at Kaisaniemi botanic garden in Helsinki on November 1st. They are promising quite a lot of snow for tomorrow. The bicycle needs repairs, and not only the flat tire needs to be fixed, so I'll commute by car and train. (Posting title is from the poem The Old Water-Wheel by Clark Ashton Smith.) Garden 1 Garden 2 The photographs were taken at Kaisaniemi botanic garden in Helsinki on November 1st. This morning I walked for over two hours, enjoying the snowy landscape. The length of day is now 6 hours 19 minutes. I started walking well before sunrise, but because of the snow it didn't feel dark. I took quite a lot of photographs, trying to adjust to the snowy conditions. Two LX100 batteries got drained, as well as the iPhone SE battery. I'm flabbergasted at what is happening in the USA...

Onneksi kukka on löytänyt sieltä oman paikkansa.

Die schöne von Moskau is true to its name. Klassinen kaunotar Mme Lemoine. The classy Mme Lemoine. Kamala nimi, ihana syreeni Andencken an Ludvig Späth. Horrible name, lovely lilac. Home base. Kotipesä. Miksi nuput eivät aukea? Why won't the buds open? Englannista kokeeksi tilaamani gladiolukset pilkottavat. Garden 1 Garden 2 Garden 3 Garden 4 The photographs were taken at Kyoto Garden in London on August 2nd. I have got 4,358 km riding the bicycle this year, of which 2,488 km since the beginning of May. This week the weather was rather variable, in the beginning cold and dry, and then warm and wet. (Posting title is from the song Roar by Katy Perry.) Kesä on vihdoin saapunut... ja puutarhaihmisenä en malta pysyä pois kukkapenkkejä kuopsuttamasta. Siksi täällä on neulottu tavallista vähemmän, mutta on neulottu kuitenkin. Blur The photograph was taken at Kaisaniemi botanic garden in Helsinki on November 1st. This morning there was a little bit of snow on the road when I started riding the bicycle. During the day the snow melted away. On the way home I noticed that the tire pressure is going down. I'm not sure whether there is a puncture or a problem with the valve. The length of day is now less than 6 1/2 hours. The weather has been rainy and clouded, so it has been dark indeed. (Posting title is from the poem...

While a house in a hilly area comes with a promise of stunning panoramic views of the surroundings, to their utter chagrin, homeowners quickly realize that working on a sloping backyard can be a harrowing task. However, the old adage, "More work equals to better results" certainly holds true in case of landscaping a sloping yard which presents innumerable opportunities for aesthetically pleasing inclusions that would otherwise look mundane. When planning a landscape for a hilly yard, it is...

On a perfect sunny July day we had a garden party at T's place with a ot of wonderful stuff to eat. On the photos foccaccia and strawberries with raw chocolate, just to mention some of our treats. In a good company playing a neo-traditional Finnish outdoor game was more fun than expected.

We have had incredibly snowy and cold winter in southern Finland this year. So I have had my fair share of knitting in the living room while it's been snowing outside. The newest bag is called Spring as we are really quite desperate for spring in Finland! My husband has spend a lot of time trying clear the routes from the snow. This photo shows how our little garden is filled with the snow. We even had to take some snow from the roof so that it does not get too heavy. Our youngest dog Cosmo...

What you need to know are a few basics and some gardening advice such as; oWhich garden plants will suit your garden conditions? oWhich plant will grow in...
